HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR SESSION
Photo sessions are a great way to spend time together, slow down from every life, and get used to being in front of the camera! It's my goal to capture your relationship in an honest way. These photos should reflect who you are together. In order to make that happen, I need you both to share with me! This guide will help you to be completely connected and comfortable during your session, and ensure you share an enjoyable experience together.
1. LET YOUR GUARD DOWN
As I said above, I want this session to be an experience you remember. Honesty is a must. Think about how you love one another when you’re spending time alone together. How do you interact? What makes you slow down? What do you laugh about? Try and remember how you connect when you're alone, and share that intimacy during your session. Get close and be present with each other. I'm here to capture the love and intimacy you share, but it's not all up to me to make these photos amazing. It’s important to remember that you have to bring your connection to the table, you’ve got share with me in order for me to capture anything real and honest.
2. BE YOURSELVES
You are wonderful and unique, and so is your relationship! Do your best to let loose, and don’t hold back who you are together. Don’t feel the need to act how you think you should during your photo session. These sessions are going to look different for each couple, which is how it should be!
3. MAKE A DAY OF IT
It can be difficult to connect with each other if you’re coming straight from a full day of work or stress. Enjoy your WHOLE day together! Spend the day connecting and relaxing in your favorite ways. Go on a date, go out to lunch, go on a hike or bike ride, or just hang out at home and cook a meal together! Do something that is restful and fun for both of you. When it’s time for your session, you’ll be refreshed, reconnected, and relaxed. You'll be able to fully enjoy the experience together. I understand that not everyone has the luxury of taking a full day off. Even taking a few hours to reset together before your session can make a world of difference.
4. DRESS LIKE YOU
This may seem simple, but it’s still worth mentioning. There is no perfect way to look or dress for these sessions. Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident! Keep in mind the environment you'll be in, for example if the session involves hiking, wear appropriate footwear or bring something to change into. Confidence will shine through in photos, and you should feel good in what you're wearing. For outfit inspiration visit this Pinterest Board!
5. FORGET ABOUT THE CAMERA
It's all about slowing down, loving on each other, and sharing a great experience. Try your best to forget there's even a camera around. This can be difficult, especially if you’re not completely comfortable with getting your photo taken. I promise that the more you focus on each other, the easier this will be! Get lost in each other's company and wrapped up in each other’s arms. Let me do the rest! I am here to capture each moment for you, so you can spend this time focusing on each other. This is your time together, enjoy it! The photos are an awesome bonus.
6. Embrace the IMPERFECTIONS
This experience should be a reflection of the two of you, wonderfully imperfect, real, and honest. Embrace the unpredictable, be spontaneous, and go with the flow. I'm not just talking about weather. Embrace the wind making your hair messy and your boots getting muddy. I want you to look back and remember how good you felt, not how perfect your outfit looked. This chapter in your story is special, so let go and celebrate where you are together!
Give yourselves the gift of uninterrupted quality time. Take a few hours to focus on nothing but each other, and it will be well worth it. Unless you have a unique situation that requires you must have your phones on you, leave your phones in the car! Leave the distractions at home and leave behind things you think you might need, like big bags or purses. I photograph the in-between moments too, so the lighter you are on your feet, the better!
8. LAST BUT NOT LEAST - HAVE FUN!
Simple as that. You’re ready to seriously ENJOY your time together.
Focus on each other, be yourselves, and leave the rest to me!
